On Sunday, a plane crashed near an airport in central Nepal.
The Yeti Airlines plane was flying from Kathmandu to the town of Pokhara and it had 72 passengers onboard.
The flight crashed at 11 am while attempting to land on the runway at Pokhara International Airport. It caught on fire while making the landing. Some reports state that it crashed due to weather conditions.
Following the crash, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal called an emergency meeting for his cabinet and urged for the state agencies to start rescue operations. The airport is closed for the time being as rescue operations are underway.
Search operations are closed for today but till now, officials confirm the death of 68 passengers including 15 foreigners, and 4 crew members due to the crash.
Aviation accidents in Nepal are very common. This is due to its runways and due to hazardous conditions caused by sudden change in the weather. In May of 2022, a plane crash occurred in Nepal that caused the death of 22 people.
