On Wednesday, a helicopter crashed near a kindergarten in a suburb in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv. The crash killed at least 15 people, reports state, including all the people that were traveling in the aircraft that consists of the leadership team of Ukraine’s interior ministry, and three children that were heading to the kindergarten.
According to Kyrylo Tymoshenko, head of the Ukrainian Presidential Administration, at least 30 people, including 12 children have ended up in the hospital, following the crash. The initial death toll was considered to be 18, but after further revision, it was narrowed down to 16.
All the nine passengers in the helicopter were found to be dead including six ministry officials and three crew members. The others were found dead on the ground, including three children.
The head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Oleksiy Kuleba, said that the aircraft landed near the kindergarten. At the time of the landing there were children and the staff but they were soon evacuated. Paramedics, the police and firefighters rushed to the scene, they are still responding to it.
In a statement written by the President, Volodomyr Zelensky, he said that he has ordered the Ukrainian Security Services to “to find out all the circumstances” that caused the “terrible tragedy.”
